Stay Musical by Maintaining Your Skills this Summer! There are many reasons why it’s important for students to practice music through the summer. Here are just a few: Maintain skills Just like any other skill, music skills need to be practiced regularly in order to be maintained. If students take a long break from practicing, they may find that they have lost some of their progress when they return to school in the fall. Stay motivated Practicing music can be a lot of fun, but it can also be challenging. If students take a break from practicing over the summer, they may find it difficult to get back into the habit when school starts again. Practicing regularly over the summer can help students stay motivated and keep their skills sharp. Have fun! Practicing music is a great way to express yourself creatively and to connect with other people who love music. |

Artist-Teacher Spotlight: Camille McClellan Camille McClellan grew up in Lake Forest, IL where she joined an after school choir and began taking piano lessons early on in elementary school. She was naturally drawn to the look and sound of the electric guitar and began taking lessons during the summer before 5th grade. Throughout the remainder of her middle and high school years, she gained musical experience by also playing clarinet and saxophone in symphonic and jazz bands, learning drums and creating her own rock bands. Camille quickly realized how much fun she had when she wrote original music for her bands to play. In 2016, she graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Songwriting. Eager to work as a professional musician, she immediately moved to the Los Angeles area where she wrote, recorded and co-produced her debut solo EP with a Grammy-winning producer/engineer and adopted the stage name “Blake Red”. Now Chicago-based, Camille currently performs with her solo band and plays guitar for a metal/punk rock band called “Hope Fiend”. Camille’s next performance with her solo band is 4/22/23 at WC Social Club in West Chicago. |
