Hello My name is Samuel Laidman. I have a decade-long history of working in sound, composition, and post production for short and feature films, mini-series, and art installations. As well as playing and performing in various rock, punk, and metal acts over the years.
Music has surrounded me for my entire life. My father being an acoustics engineer, our house had an arsenal of audio and music equipment. Participation in the school band was non-negotiable and playing in the jazz band was ideal. Even if it meant having to play the clarinet but, once you know the clarinet, they let you play the saxophone!
That’s where the fun really began for me and it was my only instrument until I was 13. In September 2010 I was treated for leukemia and left too fatigued to play any instrument for longer than a few minutes. It was 2 years into my recovery that my father purchased me my first electric guitar a Squire Strat with the whammy bar and a new mountain to climb appeared before me. This process of rebuilding lost technique and re-igniting lost momentum into an instrument foreign to me, served as a valuable reminder of music as a universal language.
The ability to articulate oneself through this language is what I hope to share as an instructor and help students get to a level where they feel confident and proud with their improvisation and creativity. Music is incredibly powerful too me and it is a wonderful privilege to help refine and inspire skill wherever i can.
