Deidre Bradshaw

Specializes in: Chess

Education: Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Geography with a concentration in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from Chicago State University

Deidre discovered chess in the 5th grade when her instructor challenged her to learn the game and eventually defeat him. That early challenge sparked a lifelong passion for chess, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Today, she is a Chess Instructor and CPS Academic Chess Coach who teaches students of all ages through after-school programs, schools, and community organizations throughout Chicago. Her teaching approach focuses on building confidence, strategic thinking, patience, and decision-making skills in a fun and supportive environment.

In addition to her chess background, she holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Geography with a concentration in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from Chicago State University. She is the author of the published research thesis Elevated Blood Lead Levels Among Chicago Children and brings more than 15 years of experience in systems analysis, technology, and education to her work with students.

She believes chess is a powerful tool that helps students develop academic, social, and life skills that extend far beyond the chessboard.
