Education: Graduated from North Park University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education

Michael is from a small south suburb called University Park. He started classical piano under the instruction of a family friend, which is when his love of music started to grow. His educational journey began at Prairie State Community College before transferring to North Park University where he graduated in May 2020 with a bachelors in Music Education, Collaborative Piano, and Voice.

Michael has been trained in classical piano for 10 years, with 3 years as a conductor, and classical voice for 3 years. He’s conducted the NP University String Orchestra, Chamber Choir and the Canadian Chamber Choir directed by Julia Davids. He was in two chamber operas under the direction of Nyela Basney. In university, Michael began heavily composing music for solo, chamber, and orchestral ensembles. His composition, ‘Heart Strings: A Piece for Flute Quartet’, was performed at a 2018 memorial service held at North Park in remembrance of a University cohort.

Since graduation, he’s worked as Conductor’s Assistant under two working conductors with the Chicago Children’s Choir. Outside of academics, he’s been commissioned to compose music for a short, silent film by a local Chicago artist and for a digital Audiobook. In his free time, he composes solo music, both orchestral and electronic.

Outside of music, Michael spends much of his time taking care of the plants that adorn his studio apartment. Most of his care and love for plants stems from growing up with a mother who loved to garden. He’s passionate about the mini forest he grows and cultivates in his apartment.
