Specializes in: Spanish Style Guitar, Vocals
Tom Kimball began playing the Spanish guitar in 1992, following an inspiring trip to Mexico. Based in Chicago, he has been fortunate to be able to study Flamenco and Latin American styles with respected local and visiting artists. In addition, he has traveled to Spain, Cuba, New Mexico and California to further his understanding and skills.
Over a period of several years, Mr. Kimball has developed an extensive repertoire that includes traditional flamenco, gypsy rumba (Gipsy Kings, Ottmar Liebert, et al.), latin jazz (bossa novas, boleros, etc.) and smooth jazz (Marc Antoine, et al.) as well as some classical pieces and original compositions. Adding to his versatility, Tom sings as well, in English and in Spanish.
Tom performs solo (with rhythm backing tracks as needed) and with other musicians, singers, and dancers. He has performed extensively, at various venues and for a wide audience. His collaborations include Fernandez & Kimball Spanish Guitars, El Payo, and Ensemble Espanol. In addition, Tom has accompanied dance classes and has taught at the Old Town School of Folk Music.
