Dan McLean is a professional musician and music instructor from Evanston. For the last 15 years, Dan has passionately shared his musical expertise with students of all ages, promoting a love for music that resonates beyond the classroom. As a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, Dan earned his bachelor’s degree in guitar performance in 2011. He studied under the guidance of some of Chicago’s most accomplished guitarists, while focusing on jazz improvisation and ensemble dynamics.

Dan’s teaching journey began as a private instructor in several local park districts around the north side of Chicago. Currently, he serves as the Guitar Ensemble director at “Chicago Waldorf School”, fostering a love for collaborative music. Dan’s outreach has included pre-k music education programs as well as Rock Band instruction in several elementary schools throughout the Chicagoland area. His connection with kids have made him a beloved figure among students and parents alike.

As a former teacher at Old Town School of Folk music he is familiar with teaching adults in a private and class setting as well. During the summer, Dan takes on the role of coaching aspiring rock bands and facilitating music camps with ChigagoSMA, contributing to the growth of future rock stars.

Aside from teaching, Dan plays frequently at private events and corporate concerts, enriching every occasion with his professional performances. He regularly performs with the high-energy Jewish band “Nishma” and frequently performs alongside his wife at “St. John Newman Parish” in Evanston.

In the past Dan has performed with some stars including the lead of Chicago’s Hamilton, Miguel Cervantes and members of the broadway musical pit. Away from the stage and classroom, Dan finds joy in playing hockey and exploring Chicago sites with his wife and son. His drive for teaching and connecting with students continues to pave the way for enriching experiences as he too enjoys learning more about the world through music education.
